Joe Biden Sends 1,000 Troops To Area Devastated By Hurricane Helene

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, today ordered the deployment of 1,000 soldiers to help with the reconstruction work in areas devastated by the floods and catastrophic winds of Hurricane Helene, which left more than 200 people dead in the country.

Biden arrived in Florida, where he will visit, for the second day in a row, the areas destroyed by the hurricane, after the tour carried out on Wednesday through the states of North and South Carolina.

The President, who will not meet with the governor of Florida, Republican Ron DeSantis, will first visit Tallahassee, the state capital, and then fly over the areas where Helene made landfall, near Perry, in northwest Florida. .

He will then attend an informative 'briefing' in Keaton Beach, before heading to Georgia, where he will also not meet the governor, Republican Brian Kemp, but will visit Valdosta, an affected area in the south of that state, where the former US President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump traveled on Monday.

Joe Biden, who will also tour Ray City where he will give a speech, ordered the Defense Department to send up to 1,000 active-duty troops to disaster areas affected by Helene, which entered Florida as a huge, powerful hurricane and caused death and destruction in at least least six US states.

The military will help distribute food, water and other necessities in many areas, including Asheville, North Carolina, one of the hardest-hit cities.

A week after Helene arrived in the United States, at least one million homes are still without electricity and many more are without drinking water, transportation and communications services.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre indicated that Biden would not meet with DeSantis because he had scheduled a trip to other parts of the state to view damage caused by the hurricane.

"DeSantis will not be present, but we have been in contact with his team. We know he has other zones to oversee today, but we have been in communication with his team," the spokeswoman said.

Jean-Pierre also said the president spoke with DeSantis and Kemp today, and that both Republicans were invited.

Meanwhile, another hurricane, Kirk, continues to move across the Atlantic today, with no land damage forecast.
