Manchester City suffered but won this Sunday, visiting Wolverhampton (2-1), in a match of the 8th round of the Premier League. The English champions even started to lose, managed to restore the tie before half-time, but only in the last minute managed to rescue the victory and the three points.
With Bernardo Silva and Rúben Dias starting for City, it was Nélson Semedo, from Wolverhampton, who 'cooked' the play of the former, setting up Strand Larsen for the opening goal after just eight minutes.
The Portuguese full-back could have extended the lead shortly after, appearing one-on-one with Ederson, but City responded with the equalizer through a beautiful shot from Gvardiol (34') that José Sá, the other Portuguese player on the pitch, apart from Toti Gomes, was unable to save.
The four-time English champions tried to put the Wolves under pressure in the second half, with a real 'assault' on goal, but José Sá responded and held on for the draw until... the last minute. Following a corner, John Stones (90'+5) rose higher than everyone and deflected the ball into the net. The Wolves men called for offside, VAR advised the referee to consult the footage and Chris Kavanagh validated the move.
With this result, Manchester City reaches 20 points and takes the provisional lead, awaiting the outcome of Liverpool's home game against Chelsea, which takes place from 4:30 pm. The Reds are therefore obliged to win to reclaim the throne.
In turn, Wolverhampton continue on a negative streak, with five consecutive defeats, and remain in 19th and second-to-last place in the league table with just one point.
