A Russian shelling of a building in Kharkiv, a large city in northeastern Ukraine, left at least 23 injured on Wednesday night, local officials said, adding that other victims were "under the rubble."
A guided aerial bomb, a powerful weapon widely used by Russia, hit a building in the city, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The attack left 23 injured, according to the latest report released by Governor Oleg Synegoubov, who highlighted that "the searches continue".
"The destruction caused by the enemy's guided aerial bomb is quite significant, threatening to collapse and putting the work of rescuers in general at risk," he highlighted.
Previously, the governor had indicated that three people were trapped "under the rubble", including a woman and a child.
"Rescue teams are trying to extract them," he assured.
Other people are trapped on the upper floors of the building, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov had previously explained.
The airstrike destroyed several floors, he added.
Videos posted on social media show a hole in the facade of a tall building, while other images, released by the National Police, show a pile of debris.
Kharkiv, a large city in the region of the same name in northeastern Ukraine, is often the target of Russian fire. It is located less than 30 kilometers from the border with Russia.
Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday night called on his Western partners to act in reacting to this attack.
"Every decision they postpone means at least dozens, if not hundreds, of Russian bombs against Ukraine. Their decisions affect the lives of our fellow citizens," he stressed.
The Ukrainian head of state privately asked the West for the right to further attack Russian territory with long-range weapons.
In May, the Russian army attempted an offensive in the Kharkiv region, with the announced aim of creating a buffer zone to limit Ukrainian attacks against military or industrial targets on its territory.
