Colombian football is mourning the death of Samuel Hodwalker this Monday, a 15-year-old player who died during a lower-level match played at the Colegio Alemán, near Barranquilla.
According to information provided by the South American website Infobae, the youngster from Caimanes FC suddenly lost consciousness and fell to the ground, causing great apprehension among his teammates, coaches and spectators in the stands.
Samuel Hodwalker was rushed to the Portoazul Clinic in Puerto Colombia, but died shortly after arriving there. For now, everything suggests that he was suffering from a heart problem.
"Our CFC family is in mourning. We deeply regret the sudden death of our beloved athlete, Samuel Hodwalker, from the 2009 category. We send our deepest condolences to all his family and wish him strength to face this difficult departure of such a dear person," the club said in an official statement.
"Samuel, CFC will remember you since you arrived to be part of our family, for your commitment, sense of belonging, your achievements, your sincerity, your joy, your dedication, your humility, and, above all, for being an excellent athlete and a great companion to all," it continued.
"Fly high, Caimancito, God welcomes you with open arms, up above, in heaven. Your friendship and talent will live forever in our hearts," the statement concluded.
