A man went to the police after two years and after transferring a very large amount of money.
An elderly man from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, was the target of a fraud that caused him to lose more than two million reais (almost 320 thousand euros) between 2022 and 2023.
The case is described as a "love scam" that led the 71-year-old man to transfer money to a criminal group that pretended to be a woman on social media.
According to the Civil Police, cited by G1, the elderly man believed he was in a virtual relationship with an American investor, who promised to travel to Brazil to meet him in person.
This Wednesday, six people were arrested in different areas of Brazil, suspected of being involved in the scheme. Another seven possible suspects are still being sought.
The case continues to be investigated.
