Israeli Forces Claim Death of Hamas Commander in Gaza

The Israeli army claimed today that it killed a Hamas battalion commander in a weekend bombing of the northern Gaza Strip.

Among those killed in the bombing was Ahmed Abdelhalim abu Hussein, whom Israel identified as the leader of the Hamas Jabalya Battalion, "responsible for firing artillery rockets" into Israel.

"Other Hamas terrorists were killed in this attack, including Mohamad Abdelrahman Mahmmud Zakot, who participated in the murderous massacre of October 7 (2023)," the army said in a statement.

The attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian factions have killed 1,200 people and abducted 250, according to Israeli authorities.

Israel launched the offensive against Gaza in the wake of the attacks, which have so far killed 44,200 people, according to the Hamas-controlled Gaza authorities.

In addition to the casualties in Gaza, some 790 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settler attacks in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
