The Philippine investigative agency summoned Vice President Sara Duterte to testify on Friday after she allegedly made death threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Officials from the agency, which is part of the Justice Department, went to the vice president's office and served the subpoena on Duterte's team, according to footage released by Philippine television station ABS-CBN.
Sara Duterte, the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, is expected to appear on Friday to "provide evidence related to a specific investigation," according to the subpoena, which does not directly mention the alleged death threats against the country's leader.
During an online press conference on Saturday, Duterte said he had hired someone to kill the head of state, First Lady Liza Araneta and Parliament Speaker Martin Romualdez if she died first.
The subpoena comes a day after Marcos Jr. called the vice president's statements disturbing, while the police and the Justice Department said they were investigating Duterte and considering filing a case in court.
Duterte's statements and Marcos Jr.'s conviction are the latest incident between the two leaders, who ran together in 2022 and won the election, but cut ties this year after disagreements.
The former president's daughter left the government in June, when she resigned as education minister. However, she remains vice president, since this position is chosen separately from that of president.
Sara Duterte lamented today that security forces had ignored for months her repeated claims that her life was in danger.
"Common sense should be enough to understand and accept that an alleged conditional act of revenge does not constitute an active threat," she justified.
