Baltasar Engonga Gets 8 Years for S𝑒x Tapes & Embezzlement in Equatorial Guinea

On August 27, 2025, a Bioko Provincial Tribunal in Equatorial Guinea sentenced Baltasar Ebang Engonga, former head of the National Financial Investigation Agency, to eight years in prison for embezzling public funds intended for official travel, as confirmed by Supreme Court press director Hilario Mitogo in a WhatsApp message to reporters. Engonga, nicknamed “Bello,” was also fined $220,000 and tried alongside five other officials for misappropriating hundreds of thousands of dollars. The case gained global attention in November 2024 when over 400 𝑒xplicit videos featuring Engonga with various women, including officials’ wives, surfaced online, some filmed in his Ministry of Finance office, sparking parodies and memes about a spoof “Balthazariem” drug. The court’s ruling focused solely on financial crimes, not the s𝑒x tape scandal.
