Iván Buhajeruk, better known as 'Spreen', played... 59 seconds, in Deportivo Riestra-Vélez Sarsfield.
The controversy in the top flight of Argentine soccer has settled down, as a result of an episode that was, to say the least, caricatured at the Guillermo Laza Stadium, where Deportivo Riestra and Vélez Sarsfield played out a one-all draw.
All because Cristian Fabbiani, the home team's coach, fielded a starting eleven that included Iván Buhajeruk, a popular 24-year-old streamer better known as 'Spreen', who was signed around two months ago, apparently as a marketing ploy.
The striker entered the field with the number 47 on his back... and was replaced after 59 seconds by Gustavo Fernández, without even having touched the ball once, further increasing the strangeness of the choice.
Criticism of what happened has multiplied in recent hours, to the point that on Tuesday the General Directorate of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) asked the Ethics Court to order the opening of a formal investigation.
In a statement, the body claims that “such conduct is likely to damage the reputation and integrity of Argentine soccer, particularly if it is illegal, immoral or lacks ethical principles”.
