An Iranian student protested against harassment by Iran's Revolutionary Guard and was taken away by the authorities. The university said she suffered from a “mental disorder”.
Human rights organizations are showing concern for the young Iranian woman who was detained after undressing in the university grounds in protest.
According to the Center for Human Rights in Iran, the young woman, who has not been formally identified, the possible internment of the student in a psychiatric clinic could be a “kidnapping”.
The same organization said that the method is used by the regime and applied to demonstrators.
“The Iranian authorities systematically use involuntary psychiatric hospitalization as a tool to repress dissent, classifying protesters as mentally unstable in order to undermine their credibility,” explained the organization, quoted by the Guardian.
It's worth remembering that the case happened last week, with the young Iranian student who stripped naked to protest against harassment by Iran's Revolutionary Guard being arrested in Tehran, while the university where the incident took place denied on social media that she had been assaulted.
