Giant Mattel was forced to issue an apology following an error in the packaging of its 'Wicked' themed dolls. A URL code provided in the boxes directed buyers to a porn site.
The error gained prominence on social media last weekend, after several users shared images of what happened: on the back of the boxes of the dolls, which are a special edition, there was a website that took buyers to a movie website. adults, when it should take you to the film's official page.
In a statement, Mattel "deeply regretted" the error "in the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls," which are primarily sold in the United States. "We deeply regret it and are taking immediate action," said the company, in a statement cited by the Associated Press.
In the statement, Mattel did not confirm whether it would remove unsold products with the incorrect link from the market. However, on Monday, the dolls appeared unavailable or out of stock on sites such as Amazon, Target and Mattel's own website.
On the other hand, the company advised consumers who purchased the doll to discard the packaging or hide the link and contact customer service for more information.
It is worth noting that Mattel launched its special 'Wicked' collection earlier this year. The film, which stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, is scheduled to be released on November 22nd in the United States and the United Kingdom. In Portugal, it is scheduled to premiere on December 5th.
