The name of Michel Barnier's successor, who only served three months as head of the French government, has finally been announced. Emmanuel Macron chose to appoint centrist François Bayrou as Prime Minister of France this Friday, December 13.
The composition of François Bayrou's government will be announced in the coming days.
According to BFM TV, the President of the Republic received François Bayrou for almost two hours in the morning. The meeting was "very tense", but ended with the appointment of the latter as Prime Minister.
Macron's decision was taken after the President of the French Republic consulted most of the political groups represented in the French National Assembly, with the exception of La France Insoumise and the National Rally.
As the French press recalls, François Bayrou "will have the difficult task" of forming a government capable of surviving the threat of censure from an Assembly of the Republic without a majority bloc and of passing a state budget for 2025, which is currently suspended.
