OpenAI Launches Sora, A Tool That Lets You Create Videos From Text

This new tool can only be used by ChatGPT subscribers and is not available in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

At the beginning of the year, OpenAI unveiled Sora, a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool capable of creating videos from a brief text description. Ten months after a testing phase where a limited number of people were given access, Sora is finally among us.

Sora was officially launched this Monday, the 9th, and is available to all ChatGPT subscription subscribers - namely Pro and Plus. However, it is worth noting that Sora is unavailable in European Union and United Kingdom territories.

“We will do our best to be able to launch [in Europe], but we don't have anything to announce yet. And there are a few more countries we can't operate in,” said OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman during a live stream of this launch.

As for Sora itself, TechCrunch says that this AI tool can generate videos lasting between 5 and 20 seconds. The company has already admitted that Sora may make some mistakes and that it is “not perfect”, but believes that “it will be very useful in enhancing human creativity”.
