Debbie Nelson, mother of rapper Eminem, died last Monday (2) at the age of 69 in St. Joseph, Missouri, in the United States. She was battling advanced lung cancer, diagnosed in September 2024, and died of complications from the disease.
Eminem and Debbie's relationship was marked by controversy. At the start of his career, the rapper accused her of neglect and abuse, with explicit references in songs like “Cleanin' Out My Closet”. In response, Debbie sued her son for defamation in 1999 and, in 2007, released a memoir, “My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem”, in which she discussed her perspective on the troubled family relationship.
Even with the public exposure of conflicts, Debbie sought reconciliation at times, but the relationship between mother and son remained distant until the last months of her life. The cancer diagnosis did not bring the family back together, according to sources close to the singer.
