Arab countries today condemned the attack in New Orleans that left at least 15 dead and dozens injured on Wednesday, and reiterated their repudiation of all types of violence and terrorism.
In statements published in the last few hours, the authorities of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as well as the League of Islamic Countries - headquartered in the Saudi city of Jeddah and made up of 57 states - expressed their solidarity with the United States, sending condolences to the families of the victims and their wishes for a speedy recovery of the injured.
All reiterated their total rejection of violence in all its forms, as well as all types of terrorism that target the safety of civilians.
In the early hours of Wednesday, a man rammed his vehicle into a crowd in the busy French Quarter of the city of New Orleans, in the southern United States. At least 15 people died, in addition to the attacker, and more than 30 were injured.
The FBI is investigating the attack "as a possible act of terrorism."
The attack took place during New Year's Eve celebrations and when the city was also filling up with people for the Sugar Bowl, a college football game that is being held today and is expected to be attended by thousands of people.
US President Joe Biden revealed that the perpetrator of the attack in New Orleans, which killed at least 15 people, published videos in which he admitted to having been inspired by the Islamic State.
"A few hours before the attack, he posted videos on social media indicating that he was inspired" by the Islamic State, said Biden, who must have received this information from the FBI.
In a brief speech from the Camp David residence, near Washington, Biden said that the videos also reveal that the perpetrator had "a desire to kill."
The US President also said that federal police are investigating whether this attack is linked to the explosion of a Tesla in front of President-elect Donald Trump's hotel in Las Vegas.
So far, no evidence has been revealed that the two attacks are related.
