The company responsible for Facebook, Instagram and Threads, Meta, has announced that it will relax the rules for moderating content on these social networks.
What's more, Mark Zuckerberg's technology company announced that these platforms will also have Community Notes - a feature used today by Elon Musk's X instead of fact-checkers.
“We've seen this approach work on X - where they give the community the power to decide when posts are potentially misleading or need more context, and people from a wide range of perspectives decide what kind of context is most useful for other users to see,” reads the Meta statement. “We think this is a better way to achieve our original intention of providing people with information about what they are seeing - and one that is less vulnerable to bias.”
Meta said that Community Notes will begin rolling out in the US “over the next few months”, with the changes to these moderation rules coming in response to complaints that the company censors “too much inoffensive content”.
As reported by The Verge, the tech giant also said it will remove various restrictions on topics such as immigration and gender identity, with political content returning to Meta's social networks “with a more personalized approach”.
