Thousands Of Dead Sardines Wash Up On Shore In Japan. Worrying Situation

Thousands of dead sardines scattered across the sand of a village in northern Japan have become a headache for local residents who, due to the New Year holidays, have not yet been able to find a company to dispose of the fish.

The images recorded in the city of Matsumae, on the island of Hokkaido, are impressive. In them you can see about 900 meters of beach 'invaded' by dead sardines.

"They're starting to rot," residents say, wondering what danger the situation poses to public health.

The reasons for the appearance of large numbers of stranded sardines remain unknown. However, the Hakodate Fisheries Research Institute of the Hokkaido Research Organization believes it is likely that the fish were forced ashore due to a sudden drop in water temperature.
