The headquarters of one of the administrative divisions of Paris was hit this Monday by a fire, which consumed a 30-meter-high bell tower.

According to AFP, which cites firefighters, the fire reached the City Hall of the 12th district of Paris, without causing any casualties.

The fire was "under control" at around 7am (6am in Lisbon). 150 firefighters were dispatched to the scene and authorities set up a large perimeter around the 19th century building.

The "roof fire", whose origin is unknown, consumed the 36-meter tower at the top of the city hall, fearing its collapse.

Firefighters are expected to remain near the building throughout the day today.

The City Hall of the 12th district of Paris was built in 1876, inspired by Renaissance architecture.
