The Spanish Guardia Civil seized 55 bales of burlap, containing 1,580 kilos of cocaine, in the municipality of Sanlúcar de Guadiana, in Andalusia, just outside Alcoutim, in the district of Faro.
In a statement, the force explains that “the intervention took place when a person phoned the Guardia Civil” to warn “of the presence of several people and vehicles that could be trafficking drugs”.
For this reason, “several Guardia Civil patrols were sent to the scene, at which point the vehicles began to flee”.
The vehicles were intercepted, but the occupants managed to escape.
When the officers inspected the inside of the vehicles, they “found 55 bales of burlap containing cocaine inside one of them”.
At stake was a “total of 1,580 kg of cocaine”.
