China Vows Not To Renounce Use Of Force In Taiwan After Exercises

The warning comes after Washington claimed that military exercises around Taiwan could be used to conceal a real attack.

“We do not promise to renounce the use of force against separatist activities aimed at Taiwanese independence and foreign interference in China's affairs,” said Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian at a press conference, in response to a question about the US statements.

China and Taiwan have lived as two autonomous territories since 1949, when the former Chinese Nationalist government took refuge on the island after its defeat in the civil war against the Communists.

Beijing, which considers Taiwan part of its territory, has increased its military activity around the island's waters and airspace in recent years.
