Max and ID announce a new special that delves into the unanswered questions surrounding the arrest of Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering the CEO of United Healthcare. The hour-long documentary investigates how a young man of such prestige and wealth could allegedly commit such a brutal crime. 'LUIGI MANGIONE: THE CEO'S ASSASSIN' premieres on the streaming platform on February 17, and on the pay-TV channel on February 21 at 22:10.
The documentary is led by host and executive producer Dan Abrams, alongside experts, industry insiders and sources close to Mangione, who together investigate his mental state and the theories surrounding the events that led to his arrest.
On the morning of December 4, 2024, Brian Thompson, CEO of United Healthcare, was fatally shot outside a Manhattan hotel while on his way to a conference. The violent and, until then, random attack shocked the world and triggered an intense police hunt to identify and capture the killer. On December 9, the alleged perpetrator, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, was captured in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in a joint operation between the NYPD and the FBI. However, as new details emerge after his arrest - including the discovery of a manifesto - doubts about the case only increase.
The special is produced by Twist Media and Wheelhouse, in partnership with Law & Crime for Investigation Discovery.
