At least six people were killed and about ten injured on Tuesday after a bus and a truck loaded with phosphate collided in the western Tunisian province of Gafsa, near the border with Algeria.
Civil Protection sources, cited by the Mosaique FM broadcaster, indicated that the accident occurred on the road connecting the cities of Redeyef and Um Laarayes, adding that the injured were transported to a hospital in the first location.
The accident involved a bus from the Gafsa Regional Transport Society, which was heading to Sfax (east), and the causes of the collision with the phosphate truck are not yet known.
Gafsa is an important mining region, but it maintains high unemployment rates despite revenues generated by phosphate exports.
