When Pope Francis appeared in public this weekend, after 38 days in hospital, few words were said. However, still in a state of health considered weak, the Supreme Pontiff found the strength to address a specific person who was among the audience.
The woman was Carmela Mancuso.
"I don't know what to say. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you to the Lord and to the Holy Father. I didn't think I was so 'seen'," she said, as quoted by Vatican News.
And the Pope's words will not have been in vain. During her hospitalization, Carmela went to the hospital several times, with flowers in her hand, to pray for the Holy Father. For her, these are like therapy.
Carmela Mancuso assures that she never thought about Francisco's death and that she always maintained confidence that he would recover. Seeing him being discharged sustains her confidence, but does not make her give up.
Aware that his recovery is still ongoing, Carmela says that we cannot stop praying for him: "Let's encourage him, let's accompany him, he will make it."
