The American technology company has been accused of abusing its dominant position in the advertising sector.
Apple has been hit with a new €150 million fine in France, with the country's competition regulator finding that the US tech giant abused its dominant position in advertising.
Le Parisien says that, between April 2021 and July 2023, Apple used a system - called App Tracking Transparency - which was highlighted by the complainants as an obstacle to advertising targeted at users of the brand's devices.
Note that this system was promoted by Apple as an additional protection for users' private data.
"If Apple is free to enact consumer protection rules beyond those imposed by the regulations, this is on the condition, given the particular responsibility incumbent on it as a dominant operator in the market for the distribution of applications on iOS devices, that it reconciles this legitimate objective with compliance with competition law," reads the conclusion of the French Competition Authority.
