Myanmar's ruling military junta has launched an international appeal for help following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Burmese territory and Thailand.
The United States Geological Survey and Germany's Geosciences Center (GFZ) said the quake was recorded in Myanmar, formerly Burma, at 13:30 (06:30 in Lisbon).
A second earthquake shook regions in Thailand 12 minutes later.
The earthquake caused a 30-storey building in Bangkok to collapse, with at least 43 workers buried at the site, according to police sources.
Myanmar authorities said that a large number of victims had gone to hospital in Naypidaw, the country's capital, following the earthquake that hit the country and Thailand.
A hospital official told France-Presse that some of the injured are being treated outside the emergency room.
The Thai government has declared a state of emergency in Bangkok.
The government of India has announced that it is prepared to send emergency aid to the affected areas.
