Alice Tan Ridley, mother of actress Gabourey Sidibe, died at age 72 on March 25 in New York City, according to People.
Alice Tan Ridley became known in 2010 when she participated in 'America Got Talent'. She was also often seen singing on the New York subway.
"Alice is just brilliant," Piers Morgan commented at the time the artist took part in the talent show and sang 'At Last'.
People also shares that Alice Tan Ridley was born on December 21, 1952, into a large family, the seventh of eight children. In 1969, she graduated from Stewart County High School and was a teacher.
She married Ibnou Sidibe, father of actress Gabourey Sidibe, in 1980, and before they divorced they had another son, Ahmed Sidibe.
