President Cyril Ramaphosa has issued a stern warning to ANC councillors to cut all ties with criminal syndicates and reject a culture of self-enrichment, corruption, and patronage.
Speaking at the ANC’s councillors’ roll call at FNB Stadium in Soweto on Monday, Ramaphosa stressed that councillors must prioritise service delivery and act with accountability. He cautioned that those captured by illicit interests risk undermining both their communities and the party.
“Some may have already fallen into the temptation of being captured by business interests or syndicates. Today is the time to free yourself and return to serving the people,” he said.
The president also underscored the need for discipline and visible governance within municipalities, warning that failure to uphold ethical standards would not be tolerated.
His address comes as the ANC faces growing concerns over corruption and poor service delivery, highlighting the party’s urgent need to restore public trust.
