Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina has asked for one year to tackle the country’s problems, vowing to resign if he fails. He urged his supporters to be honest rather than keep praising him. "I don't want flattery. I want to hear the truth. It's the people who kept telling me that everything was fine who are responsible for our current situation," he said.
The youth movement Gen Z Mada, which has been demanding his resignation, rejected his invitation to talks, accusing the government of repressing young people and announcing new protests for Thursday.
The protests, which began on September 25 over power and water shortages, have grown into wider demos over corruption, unemployment, and rising living costs. #DWAfrica
