Vladimir Putin was officially sworn in as Russian president this Tuesday, marking the beginning of his fifth term, according to Sky News.
At the ceremony, which took place in the gilded Grand Palace of the Kremlin, Putin placed his hand on the Russian Constitution and promised to defend it, under the gaze of a crowd of hand-picked dignitaries.
He then began the new term with a speech, starting by thanking the nation and the Russian Army for its support, which is on the front line of the war in Ukraine.
"I would like to thank the participants in the special military operation, I would like to thank everyone who is fighting for our homeland. The fate of Russia will be determined only by ourselves. I see a deep understanding of our historical role in defending our choice, defend our freedom and defend Russia's national interests. We will get through this difficult period and we will be successful," Putin said.
In this sense, the Russian leader declared that the country is not refusing dialogue with the West and assured that it is willing to become an "honest partner" with all those who wish.
"We are not even refusing dialogue with Western countries. We will see if they continue to hinder the development of our country and put pressure on it or if they look for ways to cooperate with us", he highlighted.
Putin told those present that he will do "everything possible" and "everything in his power" to maintain "the trust" placed in him.
"We are a single, great nation and together we will overcome all obstacles, we will implement and achieve everything we dream of. Together we will win", concludes the newly inaugurated, surrounded by thunderous applause, a volley of gunfire and music.
Finally, Putin left the palace to the sound of the Russian national anthem and a round of applause from the chosen dignitaries in the audience.
Today marks his third consecutive inauguration - and fifth in total - as President of Russia. His new mandate will last until 2030.
