Cockroach Interrupts US Spokesman During Press Conference

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller momentarily interrupted a press conference on Thursday afternoon, June 20, when he saw a cockroach climbing up a wall near a journalist's head.

"I didn't mean to interrupt, but there's a big cockroach on the wall, right above your head. Let's take a break, no insecticides, no cockroach poisons in the middle of a briefing," he said, addressing the journalist with a frightened face.

Miller was answering a journalist's question about the conflict in Gaza, saying that the US does not want the confrontation to escalate, when he lost his train of thought at the sight of the insect.

"Sorry for the distraction, but this is a very big problem," he added, laughing.

About a minute after the interruption, and after hearing a 'tap tap', as the US media described it, Matthew Miller resumed speaking: "We've solved the problem".
