Municipalities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil recorded hail during the storm that hit the state on Sunday. Several residents recorded the moment on video.
In Pinhal Grande, a resident photographed hailstones the size of chicken eggs. In the same municipality, another resident recorded his patio covered in ice, reports g1.
In Arroio do Tigre, in the Central Region, the municipality speaks of "enormous damage" and estimates that "practically 90%" of the city was affected. In Sobradinho, a neighboring municipality, there were also reports of disruption.
In Bento Gonçalves, in the Serra do Rio Grande do Sul, roofs were destroyed. According to the municipality, around 50 homes were affected. Several teams are cleaning and clearing roads clogged with leaves and hail.
In Campo Bom, in the Metropolitan Region, the phenomenon was also reported in the Colina Deuner, Firenze and Jardim do Sol neighborhoods.
Brazil's National Meteorological Institute (Inmet) warns of declining temperatures across the state until tomorrow, Tuesday. In the northern half of Rio Grande do Sul, the drop should be between 3ºC and 5ºC. In the southern half, the warning is for a decline of more than 5ºC.
