The New York court has rejected the request to annul the indictment against former Mozambican Finance Minister Manuel Chang, who was arrested as part of the legal proceedings opened by the US courts in the "hidden debts" case.
The information is contained in a note released by the Budget Monitoring Forum (FMO), a coalition of Mozambican civil society, quoted by the newspaper SAVANA.
"Chang's pre-trial motion was denied in its entirety by Judge Nicolas of the Brooklyn District Court, leaving all the charges against the former Finance Minister unchanged," says the FMO text, adding that after an evaluation of the arguments presented, Nicholas G. Garaufis came to the conclusion that Manuel Chang's request to dismiss the charges was unfounded.
Following the decision, the document continues, all the charges remain against the former finance minister.
Manuel Chang is accused of three crimes: conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit securities fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
