Michael Bizwick Usi is the new vice-president of Malawi, succeeding Saulos Chilima, who died on June 10 after the plane carrying him crashed. Usi, who was previously Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife as well as Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change, is also a renowned actor, comedian, playwright and musician.
Malawi President Lazaruz McCarthy Chakwera confirmed the death of Saulos Chilima and the other nine people on board the aircraft the day after the accident. The plane, belonging to the Defense Forces, had left the capital Lilongwe at 9:17 am, but lost contact and crashed into dense forest, complicating search and rescue operations.
