The risk of cardiovascular disease increases in people suffering from hypertension. Keeping pressure under control is essential. There are canned foods that can help.
The EatingWell website spoke to dieticians Veronica Rouse and Laura M. to find out about some of the foods that can make a difference. Get to know them and always have them at home.
Sardines
"They contain omega-3 and calcium which are important for blood pressure. Omega-3 helps reduce blood pressure and inflammation," says Veronica Rouse.
Beans
"They're a good way of keeping blood pressure under control," explains Laura M.
Tomatoes
"The potassium they contain helps neutralize the effects of sodium. They also add antioxidants."
Tuna
"It's a rich source of calcium and potassium, but also of protein."
Pineapple
"Helps reduce blood pressure. One cup contains two grams of fiber and is a good source of calcium."
Beet
"Brings together fiber, potassium, vitamin C and B. They help lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease."
