Two Dead and 4 Injured in Riots on St. John's Night in Girona

The "violent" deaths of a man and a woman on St. John's Eve in Girona, Spain, following a shooting and a hit-and-run incident, are being investigated.

The information was shared by the Mossos d'Esquadra this Monday morning on X (formerly Twitter).

"We are investigating the violent death of two people, a man and a woman, in the Font de La Pólvora neighborhood. The investigation is under confidentiality," reads the information note.

The victims are a 48-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, whose deaths were declared at Josep Trueta hospital. Four injured people were also admitted to the same hospital, two of them in serious condition.

A large group of people gathered in front of the health unit, with the intention of gaining access inside, says Cadena SER. As a result, a police cordon was set up around the building and riot teams were called in.

The alert went out at 10.35pm (9.35pm in mainland Portugal) in Calle Acàcia, in the Font de la Pólvora district, when, for reasons as yet unknown, an argument broke out that led to a shooting and a hit-and-run accident, which resulted in the death of the woman mentioned.
