According to AFP, citing a Pnat source, a preliminary investigation was opened on 3 November last year into the French association Humani'Terre on suspicion of financing terrorism, criminal association and money laundering.
Pnat says that searches carried out in January this year at the French association's premises and the blocking of bank accounts led to the seizure of more than 36 million euros.
This investigation concerns funds collected by Humani'Terre and donated, directly or indirectly, to Hamas, and it is necessary to determine the financing conditions.
No hearings have yet been held as part of this investigation.
Hamas, considered a terrorist organization by the United States, Israel and the European Union, launched a deadly attack on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023. In response, Israel launched an air and then ground offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Created in 2018, Humani'Terre, which has its administrative headquarters in the suburbs of Paris, is ‘specialized in implementing humanitarian assistance programmes for populations in difficulty’ living ‘in the Palestinian territories, as well as in refugee camps’ in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey, as explained on its website.
The association is considered by the authorities to be close to the Muslim Brotherhood, says the conservative daily Le Figaro.
