Miriam Margolyes, the actress who played Professor Pomona Sprout in the 'Harry Potter' saga, surprised her fans by revealing that she had been diagnosed with a chronic illness. In an interview with The Telegraph, she said that she had to abandon her career due to her symptoms and that she discovered she had little time left to live due to the complications of the disease.
'Harry Potter' fans certainly remember Margolyes' appearance as the professor who teaches Herbology in films like 'The Chamber of Secrets' and 'The Order of the Phoenix'. In addition to her role in the saga, she also acted in other successful films, such as 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Babe the Pig', as well as series such as 'Call The Midwife' and 'Merlin'.
Diagnosis
Miriam's life changed drastically when she was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a chronic disease that causes the spinal cord canal to narrow, resulting in symptoms such as severe pain, numbness in the limbs and weakness. Despite having treatment, the severity of the disease made her abandon her career.
Now, Margolyes also faces a low life expectancy estimate: “I know I don't have much longer to live, I'll probably die in five or six years, maybe even sooner,” she lamented during the interview. In addition to dealing with the delicate expectation, the actress also opened up about no longer being able to act at the age of 83.
Due to “limiting and depressing” symptoms, Miriam finds it difficult to carry out her work: “I want to be able to play roles that aren't just sitting in wheelchairs, but I don't have the strength anymore. I regret having to stop acting, it’s a pleasure”, the artist of one of the most famous sagas opened up about the difficulties of the disease.
