The Israeli Foreign Minister, who is in Washington to participate in the NATO summit, insisted on the need to impose new sanctions on Iran, during meetings with counterparts from the United States, Germany and Canada on .
"Our enemy is also yours. The Iranian missiles and drones that threaten us are delivered to Russia and also threaten you," said Israel Katz, according to a statement from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Katz met on Tuesday with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly .
Today, Katz is expected to meet with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and other foreign ministers.
According to Katz's office, Israel's main objective at the summit, focused mainly on support for Ukraine, is to call for sanctions that are "crippling" for Iran and even if the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is declared a terrorist organization.
After Iran's attack with hundreds of drones and missiles against Israel in April, countries such as the States and Canada, as well as the European Union (EU), announced new sanctions against the Iranian Government.
Israeli authorities, however, consider these measures insufficient, often pointing out that instability in the region is part of an Iranian conspiracy to destroy the State of Israel.
NATO's 32 heads of state and government began their summit in Washington on Tuesday with a ceremony commemorating the Alliance's 75th anniversary. The host of the meeting, US President Joe Biden, announced a major reinforcement of Ukraine's air defense by allies.
The leaders will begin the working sessions of this summit today with the aim of strengthening their deterrence and defense policy and, on Thursday, they will participate in a NATO-Ukraine Council, as well as a meeting with Pacific partners, in which they will address the challenge currently representing China.
