Jay Slater's mother reacted on Tuesday after it was confirmed that the body found yesterday belonged to her son - and paid tribute to him.
“I can't believe this could have happened to my beautiful boy. Our hearts are broken,” Debbie Duncan began, quoted by Sky News.
“I can't believe it - we're here with the Embassy staff waiting for an update and now the worst news has arrived,” lamented the young man's mother, who went to Tenerife to take part in the search for her son.
The woman's reaction comes after the results of the autopsy on the remains found on Monday were confirmed.
The court spokesman said today that the fingerprints examined during the autopsy confirmed that the body was that of the missing British teenager. In addition, the injuries sustained were consistent with a fall from a cliff.
It was also reported on Tuesday that Jay Slater's documents were recovered along with the body discovered on Monday in the area where he went missing.
It should be remembered that the young Briton disappeared on the Spanish island on June 17th, sparking a search that lasted almost a month.
