Tanker Crew Missing After Accident Off Oman

A Comoros-flagged tanker capsized off the coast of Oman and the 16 crew members were reported missing, the Maritime Safety Center in Muscat announced today.

The accident occurred on Monday 25 nautical miles (46.3 kilometers) southeast of Ras Madrakah, near the port city of Duqm, said the center, quoted by the French news agency AFP.

The authorities in the Arabian Peninsula country have launched a search operation to try to find the 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans who were the crew of the ship, identified as the "Prestige Falcon".

"The crew members are still missing," said the center, as search operations continued.

The center, which depends on Oman's Ministry of Defense, did not specify the causes of the accident.

The tanker was bound for the Yemeni port city of Aden, according to the shipping portal marinetraffic.com, quoted by AFP.
