A 12-year-old boy is the youngest person to be charged in connection with the riots that have been taking place in the UK.


 

The boy, who has not been identified due to his age, has been charged in connection with a violent disorder that took place on 30 July in Merseyside. According to Sky News, the boy is among three men charged over the protest that took place the day after the attack that killed three girls, including a Portuguese woman, in Southport. 


The young man will appear at Merseyside Magistrates' Court, while Harvey Gabbott, 21, and Paul Dryhurst, 33, will appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court. All are charged with violent disorder.


In the protest in question, more than 50 police officers were injured when around a thousand people gathered outside a mosque. The demonstration began after false information circulated about the attacker.


So far 30 people have been charged in connection with the violent protests, while 927 have already been detained by the police.
