Why did the turtle cross the road? Agents from the Arizona State Department of Public Health, in the United States, have come a step closer to answering the popular riddle, after rescuing an 'escapee' as it tried to cross the Interstate 10 motorway, in the south of the state.
According to the Associated Press news agency, the case took place on 30 July, when a driver reported to the authorities that he had spotted a large turtle trying to cross the motorway between Casa Grande and Tucson, near the town of Picacho.
The driver, with the help of the authorities, managed to get the animal off the road safely.
After establishing that the turtle was called Stitch, it was confirmed that it belonged to an ostrich farm located almost five kilometers from where it was recovered.
Once the farm had ensured that Stitch was one of its resident tortoises, the animal was safely returned, as the authorities revealed on social media.
