Elon Musk About To Go To War With US Aviation Regulator

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) considers that SpaceX has violated certain take-off requirements of the license granted by the regulator.

The FAA has therefore decided to impose a fine of 633,009 dollars - the equivalent of 566,720 euros and the highest amount ever levied by the FAA's commercial aerospace division.

The US regulator considers that the violations occurred on two separate occasions with the take-offs of Falcon 9 and Falcon 9 Heavy and accuses SpaceX of having used an unauthorized take-off control center.

“Safety drives everything we do at the FAA, including the legal responsibility for overseeing the safety of companies with commercial space transportation licenses. A company's failure to comply with safety requirements will result in consequences,” said FAA Chief Counsel Marc Nichols in a statement shared by the Ars Tecnica website.

Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of SpaceX, doesn't seem to have been happy with this decision. He quickly reacted to the FAA's decision and even threatened a lawsuit.

“SpaceX is filing a lawsuit against the FAA for over-regulation,” reads Musk's post.

Last week, SpaceX complained on the social network X about the FAA's delays in granting take-off licenses and considered that the environmental reasons cited “are unreasonable and exasperating”.
