Officer Goes Through Window Of Moving Car To Help Driver

Officers from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, in the US state of Michigan, “averted a tragedy” by jumping into the window of a moving car to save a driver who “appeared to be dazed”.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the authority explained that the incident occurred on October 12, at 2:18 p.m. local time, when officers were alerted to a car that was “driving erratically”.

After identifying the vehicle, the police activated the sirens and lights of the patrol car, but the driver, a 63-year-old man, “did not stop, continuing southbound at around eight kilometers per hour”. The officers then decided to stop next to the driver, “who appeared to be stunned, unable to understand the requests”.

In the meantime, the driver of the car managed to lower the window and braked “briefly”. It was at this point that Officer Miron, who was on the passenger side of the patrol car, decided to “climb out of the window and get into the vehicle, while they both continued to drive”.

The officer managed to stop the car and contacted the family to confirm the driver's state of health. A team of firefighters was also called, who transported the man to hospital.

“I commend Officer Miron for putting herself in harm's way to help a citizen in need and protect other drivers on the road,” said Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham. ”Thanks to her quick thinking and selfless actions, she safely ended what could have been a tragic situation.”
