Nintendo Sues Producer of 'Palworld', One of the Games of 2024

The Pocketpair game was released at the beginning of the year and comparisons with 'Pokémon' were immediate.

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have decided to file a lawsuit against Japanese developer Pocketpair, responsible for the 'Palworld' game released in early access earlier this year for Xbox and PC consoles and accused of plagiarizing 'Pokémon'.

“This action seeks an injunction against infringement and damages, alleging that 'Palworld', a game developed and released by Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights,” reads the lawsuit shared by The Verge.

For its part, Pocketpair shared a post on the X social network in which it said it was aware of the lawsuit, but that it “has no knowledge of the specific patents” it is accused of infringing.

“It is truly unfortunate that we are forced to allocate significant time to matters unrelated to game development due to this lawsuit,” the statement reads. “However, we will do our best for our fans and to ensure that independent game developers are not prevented or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas.”

It should be remembered that The Pokémon Company had already indicated that it might take legal action against Pocketpair. At the end of January, the company responsible for 'Pokémon' said it had “intentions to investigate and take appropriate action”, noting that it had not given “permission for the use of intellectual property and assets”.
