Python Hunting Contest? There Is One. The Winner Caught 20 And Took Home $10,000

Ten thousand dollars, close to nine thousand euros, for hunting 20 pythons in 10 days. That was the prize that Ronald Kiger, who won the 2024 Florida Python Challenge in the United States, won.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, hunters removed almost 200 invasive Burmese pythons from the Florida Everglades during the contest that took place in August.

More than 800 competitors from 33 US states and Canada took part. The contest is held annually and participants are tasked with killing the pythons and delivering the carcasses to three official control stations.

Ronald Kiger won this year.

"I just want to thank my family for putting up with 10 days of camping in the swamp, with the heat and the bugs," Kiger told the Palm Beach Post, as quoted by the New York Post.

In addition to the grand prize, the runners-up in the three competitive categories - professionals, beginners and military - were also rewarded for their work. Each category also had a prize for the longest python.
