Chiara Jaconis died while visiting the city of Naples in Italy. The 30-year-old woman, who lived in Paris, was visiting the city when she was hit on the head with a figurine.
The fashion student was in the company of her boyfriend and was scheduled to return home that day, Sunday, when the incident happened and she had to be hospitalized.
According to Italian media, the woman suddenly fell to the ground and her partner initially thought she was suffering from a health problem. However, when she saw blood around her, she realized that she had been hit by something.
Chiara underwent emergency surgery but died two days later, on Tuesday.
The case began to be investigated and initial data indicated that those responsible for the building from which the statue fell could face criminal charges - ranging from culpable injury to manslaughter.
According to Il Mensagero, it is now known that the statue was thrown by two children without the intention of hurting anyone, i.e. accidentally.
Investigations are continuing.
