Kathleen Geiger was charged with reckless homicide. She thought the gun was unloaded.
A77-year-old woman has been arrested after shooting a man who asked her ‘as a joke’ to shoot him.
Kathleen Geiger, a resident of Cincinnati, United States, was charged with reckless homicide after her shot led to the death of 58-year-old Arthur Osborne, according to a statement from the Hamilton County Municipal Court.
The crime took place on Sunday and, according to statements by the elderly woman, quoted in the statement, she and the man were ‘engaged in harmless banter when he jokingly asked her to shoot him’.
‘The defendant, who believed that her firearm was empty, pointed it at Osborne and pulled the trigger,’ the statement added.
The man was shot in the pelvic area and did not resist his injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the fact that Geiger had ‘provided medical help and called 112’.
The defendant's bail was set at 10,000 dollars, around 9,000 euros, and the trial is scheduled for 31 October.
