Don't overlook signs that may be important. ‘An unexpected loss of blood, when you're already menopausal, is enough to send you to the gynaecologist,’ warns JoΓ£o Casanova, a specialist in gynaecology-obstetrics.
In an article on the Hospital da Luz website, signed by himself, the doctor says: ‘It's very important for all women to realize: it seems scary, it seems preferable to think “it'll pass”, but it really can't be ignored.’
He adds that ‘as a rule, the initial causes of blood loss after the menopause are benign’. Even so, ‘it's essential that the specialist doctor always rules out all hypotheses, because it could actually be something more serious.’
