A video of a woman exercising on a torii gate has sparked outrage on social media, as has a new video - with an apology.
At issue is a former Chilean gymnast, Maria del Mar 'Marimar' Perez Banus, who used various social networks to share the video, which she has since deleted. You can see the images in the gallery above.
The influencer appears happy in the images, despite the fact that she is performing the exercise at a traditional Japanese gate, sacred to Shintoism.
According to international publications, the video reached 40 million views between X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
Social media users didn't like the gesture and ended up leaving some comments, saying that the tourists were “vulgar and rude”, “disrespectful” and only “looking for attention”.
After this 'wave' of comments, the digital content creator shared another video, during which she apologized. “I didn't mean to be rude. I'm really sorry for what I did,” she said.
